On with the Snow!
CAMP HUMPHREYS – Second graders sang, danced, and brought joy during their annual winter performance of On with the Snow!
On with the Snow! has become an annual tradition for the second grade at Humphreys West Elementary. The show – a fun collection of songs and dances – celebrates the season of winter and all that comes with it, especially snow! For several weeks, the students practice choreography and stage direction, learn songs and dialogue, and finally put it all together for the show.
“I love hearing from students and families how much they love or are so excited to perform for our annual winter performance,” said second grade teacher Grace Ku. “Our second grade teachers know this is such a memorable experience for our students, because our former students always talk about this performance when they come back.”
The joy of this celebration is easily seen in the smiles and sounds of the second graders. That joy only grows when they spot their parents in the audience cheering them on.
“I am so thankful to have these opportunities to invite parents and the community into our schools,” said Principal Edgar Romero. “Sharing with the rest of the school is great, but there is nothing like sharing your hard work and talent with your family. We all love seeing the pride students have for their hard work and the pride of the families for their children.”
Students gain many experiences while preparing for the show. The rehearsals allowed students to see that mistakes can be made and learned from; that practice helps them become experts; and they see that the show works when they all do their part. The pride of completing the performance and having their hard work pay off with a standing ovation from loved ones.
