Humphreys West Elementary joined schools across the nation in observing National Fire Prevention Week from October 20–24, with a series of interactive and educational events designed to promote fire safety awareness among students.

This year’s theme, “Charge into Fire Safety Lithium-Ion Batteries in Your Home,” emphasized the importance of understanding fire risks associated with everyday rechargeable devices. In partnership with the Camp Humphreys Fire Department, students engaged in hands-on learning experiences that brought fire safety to life.

Students explored an inflatable Fire Safety House, designed to resemble a home and fire truck, and had fun bouncing inside with their classmates.

Another activity was the walk through the fire trailer, where they practiced emergency response scenarios, and they also explored a real fire truck, gaining insight into the tools and responsibilities of local firefighters.

The week’s activities also included a Fire Prevention Poster Contest for students in grades K–4. First-place winners from each grade had their artwork displayed at the Main Exchange, while other entries were showcased throughout the installation to reinforce the fire safety message. The contest concluded with a special reward for the Grand Prize Winner: an AAFES gift card and a ride to school in a fire truck.

Through creativity, collaboration, and community support, Humphreys West Elementary successfully “charged into fire safety,” equipping students with knowledge and habits that will help keep them safe at home and beyond.
